Art Therapy / Psychotherapy

Art Therapy / Psychotherapy

Art therapy is a mental health profession which integrates psychotherapy and various art media as a form of expression, communication, and exploration to promote healing and emotional and mental well-being. The creative artmaking process and the art itself is said to reflect, mirror and even amplifies clients’ subconscious.

The broad range and variety of art materials enables art therapy to be uniquely adaptable to the needs and abilities of clients, without compromising their expression or projection of emotions and thoughts. Where words can be intimidating, art therapy provides a safe and non-threatening way of communicating thoughts and emotions.

Frequently Asked Questions for Art Therapy Psychotherapy

Please contact us if you can't find an answer to your question.

Some people begin therapy anticipating a quick fix and become discouraged when their problems don’t go away after one or two sessions. They also expect the therapist to hand them all the solutions and answers on a silver platter.

Therapy is a two-way street – as much as your therapist wants to help, you have to put in the work. Remember: it's not the therapists' job to give you specific solutions.

We are here to guide and help you process your current and past emotions, thoughts, and traumas before discussing and journeying with you towards healing and a brighter life.

Although therapy can be costly, it is an investment in your emotional and mental health that could benefit your relationships, career, and holistic well-being. Don’t let the expense deter you from enhancing your quality of life.

It's perfectly fine. You don't need to have any previous experience or expertise in art. We will guide and support you through the process such as introducing art directives, or helping shape a sculpture.

It's certainly alright with us. We can just chat. Making art each session is not mandatory.

A therapy session is akeen to having a conversation with a friend. Only, the friend is trained to navigate through your thoughts and emotions. It's a relationship in which you are encouraged to share your thoughts and feelings in a safe space. Therapy sessions can be light-hearted, filled with joy, humour or laughter, not only serious, dark and heavy topics.

Sessions are tailored to your needs; we may address early childhood relations, trauma, behaviours, patterns, identity, emotional and mental wellness,  etc. Together, we explore the ways your thoughts, emotions, habits, behaviours, etc. contribute to your holistic well-being.  We also place emphasis on regulating the nervous system.

If you are not comfortable with sharing some information, we totally understand that. Sharing some information can be challenging, uncomfortable and vulnerable. We understand and respect your boundaries. Explore at your own pace, in a safe and non-judgemental space.

Yes, absolutely. This is one of our specialties. We have worked with neurodiverse population with a range of communicative abilities.

Yes, definitely. All information shared, discussed, and echanged are confidential. This includes artworks as well (we will seek consent earlier on in the process). However, should there be a legal obligation, we have the right to disclose information to the relevant authorities.

Bookings will only be confirmed upon returning duly completed forms at least 72 hours (3 days) before the first consultation.

Subsequent appointments are confirmed after payment is made.

Sessions frequency is tailored to your needs and therapeutic goals. You could attend a weekly session, fortnightly or monthly. It's best to discuss this with the therapist.

Some individuals may find short-term treatment beneficial while others benefit from a long-term support. Generally, art therapy/psychotherapy is a longer term treatment aimed at gaining insight into emotional and/or physical issues. Rather than a specific problem, the treatment plan focuses on an individual’s thought processes and overall well-being. We will review this throughout your therapeutic journey.

Yes, we offer a few weekly slots at reduced rates for eligible clients.

There is currently a waiting list for reduced rate slots as they are filled for the next few weeks. Please get in touch to find out more.

Unfortunately, we don't at this time.

Experiences and training

Naturally, those with extensive training and experience often charge higher. For instance, a private practitioner with several years of expertise will charge higher than someone with only a few years of experience in a public setting.

The therapist's experience

Likewise, if a therapist or clinic is well known for their services and in high demand, they may bill a higher rate per hour or per session.

Type of therapy

Highly specialised treatments may be more expensive.

Inadequate private insurance coverage

While many insurers today provide specialised policies that pay out in the case of a mental health diagnosis, unfortunately, the coverage is still insufficient. Furthermore, these insurance policies only cover therapies for certain diagnoses.

Limited understanding of mental health

Similarly, what constitutes mental health problems in Singapore’s public healthcare system is rather restricted. These narrow definitions limit who and how many persons can get assistance from public institutions for mental health in Singapore.

Improving your mental health takes time

There isn’t a miracle drug you can take for mental health. Self-improvement is a journey, and going for therapy is part of it. This includes multiple therapy sessions that may go on for months and even years.

Operating cost

Note that there are also overheads that we need to cover: materials, rent, website, mandatory supervision, professional membership, etc.

No, we don't, We are art psychotherapists working with a symptom-based approach: understanding issues and the ways to cultivate deeper understanding and self-regulation to relieve and manage symptoms.

Changes must be made at least 24 hours prior to therapy session.

Changes made within 24hrs are subject to 100% charge, unless accompanied with a valid documents on a case-by-case basis.

We understand unexpected circumstances may arise and we will do our best to accommodate to your needs.

A good therapeutic relationship consists of three essential qualities: an emotional bond of trust, caring, and respect. It's important to have an open communication and try discussing your feelings with your therapist. Thereafter, if you still feel uncomfortable or can't connect with the therapist in a helpful way, we will help you explore alternative options.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, harm, and in need of immediate help,
