Transition from Kindergarten 2 to Primary school was a major jump for my son who has emotional and anger issues. Primary 1 was a struggle not only for him but for me as a mum. The morning drop-off to school will eventually end up with him making a scene, crying literally every day and throwing his school bag or jumping and raise his voice repeatedly saying, "I don't want to go to school!"
When I picked him up after, his teacher will have a face to face talk with me practically every week telling me about his tantrums: he pushed tables or chairs when he is angry, cried and was unable to pay attention in class. Teacher had to be with him most of the time and during recess to manage his behaviour.
Through recommendations I managed to contact Ms Lela who is a dedicated and experienced interventionist who uses Art Therapy as well. The first session started in April 2022 and two months on, after the June holidays, my child happily walked into school on his own without any tantrums. Focusing, pronouncing words and forming sentences in class improved too. Also, teachers noticed the vast improvement in him.
Emotion and anger issues had since got so much better. However, speaking in front of class was a new challenge for him. He felt afraid to speak. With Ms Lela’s therapy, speaking in front of class is no longer an issue.
I can't thank you enough for your patience rendered towards him.
